Safa Park

The Eid Al Adha holidays are just about to end today as we headed out to Safa park for some fun. The entire family spent the day at Safa Park. We had packed a nice lunch for all of us (had an overdose of BBQ over the last few days) along with beach toys for the kids.

Her Name was Rio and She Dances in The Sand

It occurred to me last month as I gazed out of my living room window the the millionth time that I should actually do something about the yachts beneath me. Not necessarily purchase one, but at least chartering one for afternoon would be a special thing to do. So I set about some research and came across a company calledxclusive yachts who were well respected locally and known the the manager of the yacht club. With my birthday just around the corner, it would be really memorable to take me and my friends out for an afternoon onto the Gulf on a Gin Palace of note

Do you discriminate?

When you first meet a person, do you make an opinion about them based on their ethnicity? Are you interested in knowing where someone is from before dealing with them? Do you judge people by the color of their skin?
In my case, I don’t do any of that. When I deal with someone, I try to know more about the person by spending time with him. In most cases I don’t even know where that person is from even after several interactions.

Little Red Corvette

The F1 came to Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island for the last race of the season at the weekend. And what a weekend it was. Last year I waxed lyrical about how fantastic the facility was and how much of a good time I had with my friends. Could it have been better? I had my doubts, but yet again Yas Island and the F1 delivered a superlative few days of fun.
We cruised down late on Saturday afternoon and arrived at the circuit just in time to see an action packed qualifying.

Here's one to get you going.

Discrimination. An interesting subject and one which causes heated debate.

Not just debate of course but abuse and extemist ranting. It's been a while since the ranters have screamed abuse at me, so here's an opportunity.

Anti-racism body welcomes UAE efforts to combat discrimination

The Skinny Suburbanite

So finally I tracked him down...I have no idea why, all these years, he was nowhere to be found on the Internet. Of course, I could have found out through mutual contacts what his number was after I lost it...but now I think I have it, I am not sure whether it's a good idea to call until I'm clear about my motives for doing so, and accepting that going ahead will have some degree of emotional consequence - either on his part, or mine - or both. Well, he did write me one of those long, heartbroken letters after I vanished - the kind a girl would dream of having...you know, the one where a man is pining after you...

You need wife sir?

I went to get some ice from the garage today.

Unfortunately there was none left, as a customer had bought all the bags earlier in the day.

‘Can you make some more in the machine?’, I asked.

‘Yes sir. One bag every two minutes.’

Laugh your heart out!!!

Sad Day

Today precisely five years ago, suicide bombers detonated their ball-bearing packed bomb belts in the Grand Hyatt Amman. In simultaneous attacks, the Radisson and Days Inn hotels were attacked. I have always thought the Days Inn attack was a terrible piece of black humour - I think they were supposed to attack the Holiday Inn and got it wrong.

Musandam

Musandam is the Northern part of Oman, physically separate from rest of Oman and accessible by land through UAE only. To say the least, it’s an exceedingly beautiful place. Below are some pictures from our recent trip to Musandam.

Airports

Everyone who had experienced air travel would tell you this: they hate airports. Or they love airports. You simply can't be indifferent to airports. You can't have an emotional truce with airports. You can't stand on the fence: the fence here will give you an electric shock. So you either love them, or you hate them.

I hate airports.

Scary installation

I have been without television (aside from DVDs and internet viewing) for well over a year now. I decided recently to get Showtime/Orbit. The men seen in the photo came out to take care of the installation. It involved running a cable from the dish on the roof down the side of the building and through a freshly-drilled hole in my window frame.

Life with Farook, the beginnings...

I met Farook several years ago, when he was at the zenith of his second or third career. I have no idea what he did before I met him, since, although he's told me many times, the stories are all different, but when I met him he was fairly successful, with a bustling business and several employees.
